Work & Edition Details
The two-movement piece in the character of a divertimento seeks to take account of the peculiarity of the instrumentation and especially of the solo instrument: the short, dry, albeit full tone of the marimba, which does not permit a sustained cantilena - hence the absence of a slow movement - in contrast to the mobile expressive tonal shaping of the string instruments.
