Work & Edition Details
The 'Variations on a Musette by J.S. Bach' were written for a brass concert in the Bach Year 2000, which, under the motto 'Bach goes Brass', was to include as wide a range of Bach's music as possible. Although the names of the variations March - Air - Recitative - Fantasy are reminiscent of Bach's time, their jazzy setting clearly places them in the present. Although they are written as concert pieces, they offer the possibility of playing "swinging Bach" through the addition of mutes and/or a discreet rhythm section.
