Work & Edition Details
The composition has a three-part programmatic structure: 1. threatened peace: a peaceful, yet already serious scene is disturbed by approaching disaster. 2. quarrel and fall: two battle groups march towards each other. The distance becomes shorter, chaos breaks out; tangled up in each other, the fighters run out of air. 3. call and procession: a call of fourths is heard in the silence; various voices, also bells, fall in and call for reflection. A procession forms, swells and moves upwards (fugal passacaglia).
