Work & Edition Details
The continuous fantasia was premiered in Leipzig in October 1987 by the Dresden Brass Ensemble Ludwig Güttler and is divided programmatically into three parts according to the main types of the Psalms: 1. introit after Psalm 122: Jerusalem, the city of the annual meeting of the tribes of Israel. A common hymn develops from echoing shouts at the arrival on the Temple Mount. 2nd Lamentation after Psalm 130: First, the day of judgement is held; the lamentation of the sinner in the dungeon, consolation and encouragement from above. 3rd Jubilation after Psalm 150: Fanfare for the opening of the temple; rondo-like alternation between a hymn of praise and thanksgiving and several round dances leading into a fugue.
