Work & Edition Details
Inspired by the history of the return of the Jews from Babylonian captivity, a text was created based on the Book of Ezra in the Bible, which has an astonishing affinity to the German present of unity and self-discovery, of the strangeness of those at home and those returning home and the difficulties of understanding. The oratorical work for choir, mezzo-soprano, baritone, narrator and orchestra is carried by the music, which brings this "Song of the Troubles of Homecoming" to life with musical means. The three-quarter-hour work is not characterised by the most modern or fashionable sound, but is built on the solid foundation of that tradition which emerged in church music of the 20th century.
